In 7 days, I will be running in the AJC Peachtree Road Race. It’s going to be tough, it’s going to be hot, and it’s going to be fun! I’m not running for time. There’s a butt load of entrants, so I’m assuming it’s going to be crowded.
Over the next 7 days, I plan to boost my body’s level of performance by eating smart carbs. Today I’m having a bowl of oats for breakfast. It’s loaded with sliced almonds, almond milk, and cranberries. Oh, and a couple of slices of Apple Wood smoked bacon. Gotta get in some protein and fats, too!
Hydration is gonna be key to completing this race without an “event”. Starting today, I’m taking advantage of my “oral rehydration” concoction. This should help me build up enough cellular moisture to carry me through a hot, steamy race!
I’m taking it easy with the running. Basically I’m doing a fast run on the treadmill (9-10 min. miles for 3), twice a week. I do a long, slow run 3 days a week. My approach to running has been pretty casual; and that makes it fun for me. I also work in some strength/core training a couple of days a week.
I think I’m pretty well prepared. Now, I need to come up with a cute outfit! I’m thinking something not so Independence Day-ish, and definitely not one of those silly running tu-tus!
