Care plans and Fist Pumps

Today marks the end of my first semester’s clinical rotation. I am elated! I get my Wednesdays back. No more 5 am alarms, volumes of drug cards, and most importantly, no more obsessing over care  plans. Thank heavens!

I will say that clinicals was a confidence builder for me. I have a pretty strong nursing skill set; but the only direct patient interaction I had involved fur and four (sometimes three) legs. Approaching humans and communicating was easy; but touching and assessing people was a brand new experience for me. I loved every minute of it!

I don’t usually gloat or brag; but today I’m all smiles. My clinical evaluation went really well. My instructor stated that I was very capable and efficient in performing tasks and prioritizing. She was very pleased with my interaction with patients, and that my care plans were “outstanding”. She also advised that since I have such a strong grasp of nursing, that I should be wary of over-confidence. Understood. I am so happy my hard work is paying off. I actually fist pumped on my way to the parking deck!
